Nikon D60 Black Gold Edition: So Ugly It'd Make Mr. T Cry, If He Could Cry [Unconfirmed]

The mystery of Nikon's Black Gold D60 might have just been solved, and man, it is not pretty. No really, it's a downright repulsive study in tackiness, if these pictures are to be believed (sadly, it looks like they should be). Nikon has liberally slathered the D60 with cheap gold paint aaaaaaand... that's it. And you get to pay an extra $50 to rock more shiny than the people who actually have taste and get a regular D60. I'm not sure who came up with this, but even Mr. T wouldn't use this camera. [Nikon Rumors, DP Review]

Samsung's Nabee Connects Cameras to PCs, Cables Not Required [Wireless]

Samsung's Nabee system is a way of adding Wi-Fi sync-up capabilities to simpler digital cameras that lack them. It uses the Alereon AL5000 wireless USB chipset that operates at 3.1 to 10.6 GHz over a 30-foot range and has two parts: a small dongle that goes into the camera's USB socket and one that goes into the PC. It's due out in December, though there's no info on pricing. [FarEastGizmos]

Mobile Safari Redesign Is Subtle, Logical [Apple]

From an alleged leaked shot of iPhone firmware 2.2, we see that Apple has tweaked the browser ever so slightly (old version left, new version right). The Google search magnifying glass icon is gone in favor of a separate Google search bar (similar to Safari desktop). Technically it won't save any button presses over the old version, but Luddites will be less likely to type "Google.com" into the address bar with every search. The price for this fancy design? The refresh button is shrunk into the address bar. [iPhone Atlas via Wired]

Jet Pack Guy Crosses English Channel [Heroes]

I don't expect you mere wingless mortals to truly appreciate the accomplishment of a pilot who just crossed the 150-mile English Channel with a jetpack—that'd be like someone who can't read claiming to love the study of Cuneiform—but from one rocket man to another, I salute you, Yves Rossy.

Actually, what's that I see? A parachute? You mean he didn't die? Oh, then I don't need to be polite about this at all. [CNN -Thanks Geoff!]

North Korean Arcades Are Incredibly Sad [Arcades]

I've seen some crappy arcades in my day, mostly tucked into some crummy corner of whatever cheap hotel my mom had stashed us at, populated with well-worn Galaga and Street Fighter II machines. They had a certain kind of charm, though, and still do, considering the fact that the arcade is an endangered species in the US. Then there's this arcade in North Korea, which is almost as bad as the old Soviet ones.

It makes me sad, especially when I think about the arcades in Japan and the massive Starcraft colosseums to the south. Not because of how old the machines are—a great game is a great game—but because of the poor condition they're in. I realize NK has much bigger problems, like starving people, but that doesn't change my gut reaction to these pictures as a gamer. Head over to UK Resistance to see the rest. Don't Call the Motorola Digital Picture Frame a Digital Picture Frame [Digital Picture Frames]

It's not revolutionary tech, but this Motorola picture frame concept combines a few different fields to create a pretty practical device. The device looks like a digital picture frame, but it also supports VOIP and acts as a wireless information hotspot with femtocell integration (cellular base station that can cover wireless formats from GSM to WiMAX). With a few UI tweaks, we'd gladly hang one on our wall. [via Crave]

Teeny Web Server is Smaller Than a Business Card, and Way More Useful [Electronics]

Hackaday's running a cute little electronics project at the mo (well, if you think electronics can be cute) to which shows you how to build a fully working web server on a circuit board no bigger than a business card, in profile at least. It's capable of serving up web pages and files and instead of using tricky-to-access EEPROMs it runs from code stored on a FAT-formatted SD card—easily accessible by PC. Check it out: it's pretty fascinating, and is a project you can follow...assuming you're darn good at delicate soldering work, and are into DIY electronics. Just don't go sewing the board to any clothing. [Hackaday via ]

24 Hour Air Traffic Around the World Blows Minds, Eyeballs [Airplanes]

Here's a video displaying all commercial air traffic in the world during a 24 hour period. Seriously, I'm moving to New York City tomorrow and seeing the flight density in this computer simulation scares me a bit. Thankfully, it's a big planet with plenty of space to fly. But then, pilot friends tell me that sometimes they get close enough to wave at each other, so maybe it's not as big as to accomodate the 7.4 billion passengers that will travel by air in 2020. Giant Light Like Shaped Like Spacecraft, Doesn't Go Pew Pew [Ufo Lighting]

This is a giant exterior light assembly that looks as angular as a stealth fighter, and bit like a Star Trek shuttlepod. By designer Jeroen Molenaar, it's got some artistic merit and sure, it lights up outside places really nicely... but who cares? It's a giant light fitting that looks like a spaceship, and that's all you need to know. [Jeroenmolenaar via BBG]
