Most Blu-ray features leave me a little cold, but the Watchmen's "Maximum Movie Mode" actually looks really cool. In it, director Zack Snyder uses two screens to visually show various behind-the-scenes snippets while the movie plays.

The setup, which is Snyder standing in front of a couple of screens, allows him to freeze the movie as it plays, show the scene being shot next to the final version and compare scenes to panels from the comic book. It's the closest we've seen to actually having the director with you in your living room walking you through the movie. Great stuff.

When you were in college, you spent your free time drinking tallboys of Bud Ice and playing Mario Kart 64 until 5am. These MIT students, on the other hand, built a shopping cart go-kart cart and dubbed it the LOLriokart.

The LOLrioKart consists of a big stack of NiCd aircraft batteries and a 15hp brushless motor rigged up to an old shopping cart with upgraded wheels. As you can see by the video, it travels at a pretty good clip, up to 45MPH. And you've got to assume that in Cambridge, seeing a motorized shopping cart with a nerd inside tooling around on the street isn't all that shocking.

It's June, and most of us reading this post are stuck at work instead of wasting a summer vacation away with lemonade and the dreaded "playing outside." And to make matters worse, there's the ridiculously cool Heli Mission SWAT Truck.

This thing is an R/C truck that can launch a freakin' autopilot helicopter. Can you even wrap your head around that phenomenon? It'd be like if your home had some mechanical port that opened with an remote, unleashing or storing your car (or maybe even two cars!) at will.

Here's something I'd expect to see whipped up by MAKE Magazine on Martha Stewart: A paper speaker kit that comes with all the paste and paper you need to fold together your own mini ghetto-blaster. Seriously.

The Princeton PSP-NXT speaker unit series resonates sound throughout the paper and the surface you've placed it on. In this way, each surface you try—from a desk to a glass window—becomes a "speaker box" with unique characteristics.

The kits are USB-powered, and there are three nostalgic designs to choose from: Ghetto Blaster, Hi-Fi, and old-school record player cabinet. As of last weekend, Hulu no longer plays in the PS3's Flash-supported browser.

Neither Sony nor Hulu has come forth with an explanation, though the timing is linked to the PS3's latest firmware 2.8 update and it's hard to see the statement "the video is not available on your platform" as anything less than pointed.

But back when the PS3 did have Hulu, how well did it actually work? The few times I tested it out, the slightest misstep led to memory error messages and I'd need to restart. Is Sony improving the Hulu experience? Is Hulu blocking someone like they did Boxee. Or is Microsoft making deals to score Hulu exclusively on the 360?

Good news if you're a Windows Mobile user and were feeling left out the Mozilla's Fennec mobile browser party. Today's Alpha 2 release should now work with most devices using the Windows Mobile 6 platform. (Support had initially been limited to the HTC Touch Pro and some other "VGA phones".)

Newly added treats include updated themes and a tweaked UI, improved add-on support and numerous bug fixes. We gave the alpha a quick spin and found that while a bit slow, it shows plenty of promise. The interface and overall experience is actually pretty usable, and it renders pages beautifully.

A corresponding Maemo release for Nokia's N810 has also been made available. If you want to know what all the fuss is about (or you're one of those add-on writing folks we love so much), then you can experiment with the desktop versions for Windows, Mac OS X and Linux. All those fly-catchers—the sticky ones, the glowing ones, the zappy ones—seem like such a waste. Surely there's something to do with all those fly carcasses, aside from cringing at them. Enter James Auger and Jimmy Loizeau—insect nemeses.

Their "carnivorous robot" prototypes are simple in concep: each gadget, be it a lamp, clock, or heretofore unnamed generic killing device, powers itself with special fuel cells that are able to produce electricity by processing the bodies of flies, and in one case, mice.

Auger and Loizeau's unsettling apparati, including the the sticky conveyor belt clock and moth-attracting death lamp above, sound an awful lot like the basement experiments of a troubled tween chemistry enthusiast. In reality, and as evidenced by the devices' creative construction and execution, the pair are designers, and the carnivorous robots are pieces of art, not masked cries for help. Well, this should make the Pirate Bay's court appeal interesting. For the last couple of years, the guys have been working on an anything-goes, censor-free haven for online video sharing called VideoBay, and it's now gone into "Beta Extreme."

"This will be an experimental playground and as such, subjected to both live and drunk (en)coding, so please don't bug us too much if the site ain't working properly," the site's front page currently warns.

But before you head over looking for an all you can eat smorgasbord of porn, know that you're currently limited to viewing the ogg/theora video and audio tag demos linked to from the main page.

TorrentFreak notes that users were initially able to browse through the videos, but that's been disabled now. "What is left is an announcement that the site will be launched somewhere in the future."

Beyond the piracy angle, what's interesting is this could be one of the first major deployments of HTML5, the next major revision of HTML that some believe could replace the need for plug-ins like Adobe Flash.
